With the continuous rise in popularity of cross-border travel in Hainan, thanks to the favorable policies such as visa exemptions for 59 countries, bilateral mutual visa exemptions, and unilateral visa exemptions, Haikou Meilan International Airport (hereinafter referred to as Meilan Airport), a subsidiary of Hainan Development Holdings Ltd., operated a total of 35 international and regional passenger routes in the first half of 2025. The total number of international and regional passengers reached 676,000, a year-on-year increase of 15.5%, with transfer passengers accounting for more than one-third. To provide a more pleasant and comfortable travel experience for transfer passengers, Meilan Airport has recently upgraded its exclusive benefits for international and regional transfer passengers.
Increased Meal Vouchers to Save Transfer Passengers' Travel Costs
International and regional passengers transiting through Haikou can claim a series of exclusive benefits and welfare vouchers at the T1 and T2 inquiry counters, based on the length of their transfer time, by presenting their preceding flight boarding pass and subsequent travel proof:
Transfer time ≤ 4 hours: Passengers can claim one dining voucher worth 60 RMB, to be used at designated merchants within the terminal or at the Meilan Airport Hotel's restaurant. This voucher has been upgraded from the original 40 RMB.
4 hours < Transfer time ≤ 72 hours: Instead of the original single free accommodation voucher for one night at Meilan Airport Hotel, passengers can now choose between:
One dining voucher worth 100 RMB for designated merchants, or
One free accommodation voucher for a one-night stay at Meilan Airport Hotel in a standard room for two people (a 200 RMB surcharge applies for single occupancy).
Additionally, starting from August 4, Meilan Airport will launch a "Transfer Benefits System" coupon mini-program to replace the previous paper-based voucher distribution process. After scanning the QR code at the inquiry counter and completing identity and flight information verification, passengers will receive an electronic voucher for exclusive transfer passenger benefits that can be redeemed and used. This makes the transfer process more convenient.
Important Notes:
For international-to-international or international-to-domestic transfer flights via Haikou that offer "through check-in and baggage through-check" service, passengers can complete customs or immigration procedures at the international transfer area of Terminal 2 at Meilan Airport and proceed directly to the boarding area for the connecting flight without retrieving their luggage for recheck-in, ensuring a seamless connection.
For domestic-to-international transfer flights via Haikou offering "through check-in and baggage through-check" service, passengers can use the dedicated transfer passage to quickly reach the international departure area for exit procedures.
If the connecting flight does not support "through check-in and baggage through-check" service, passengers will need to retrieve their checked baggage at the arrival area and proceed to the departure hall to complete check-in procedures.
Expanded Service Coverage, More Comfortable Overseas Travel from Haikou
Starting from August 4, this welfare upgrade will expand the service range. Passengers whose household registration is not in Haikou (i.e., their address on the ID card is outside Haikou) can enjoy the corresponding international and regional transfer benefits by presenting their ID card and outbound flight information within 72 hours when departing from Meilan Airport for international or regional outbound flights.
On-site staff will guide passengers to use the mini-program and calculate the stay time based on the difference between the time of voucher claim at the inquiry counter and the planned departure time of the outbound flight. The stay time will be verified as the transfer time, and the welfare rules will be the same as those for transfer passengers.
Friendly Reminder: During the summer travel peak, Meilan Airport is expecting high passenger traffic. On August 1, the passenger flow is expected to reach 80,000 on a single day. It is recommended that passengers arrive at the airport 2 hours in advance to complete check-in procedures. Transfer passengers should check the validity of their passports and ensure their visa requirements meet the destination's standards. Please also ensure sufficient transfer time and keep relevant flight documents for the transfer service. For any inquiries, please call Meilan Airport's 24-hour service hotline at 0898-966114 or follow Meilan Airport's official Douyin live stream for assistance.
